“Mr. George Uwakwe began his 29-year career with GTBank in 1992 where he served in various departments including Operations, Marketing, Audit, Compliance and Risk Management. He was appointed Chief Inspector, heading the Internal Audit division of the Bank in 2002. In 2010, he became the Bank’s Chief Risk Officer (CRO), overseeing the Bank’s Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Division and served in that capacity until his retirement in 2021.

Mr. Uwakwe was appointed to the Board of GTBank Liberia as a Non-Executive Director from 2019-2021, where he served as the Chairman of the Board Credit Committee and was a member of the Board Risk and Board Audit Committees.

Mr. George Uwakwe graduated with Honors in Accounting from the University of Port-Harcourt and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, a Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Loan & Risk Management of Nigeria and he is Certified by the Standards Organization of Nigeria as a QMS Lead Auditor.
